Pune: Amid rising concerns over Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), Pimpri-Chinchwad recorded one more suspected case of the disease on Sunday (February 2), bringing the total number of cases to 18.
According to the PCMC Health Department, one patient has succumbed to the illness, while six patients have recovered and been discharged. The remaining patients are reported to be in stable condition, with five still on ventilator support.
To monitor and control the outbreak, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has deployed 16 survey teams across the city. Each team includes a Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW), an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), and an ASHA worker.
Additionally, a dedicated GBS helpline (7758933017) has been activated under the Sarathi Project, enabling citizens to seek immediate assistance.

PCMC Steps Up Coordination with Private Hospitals
A Google Meet conference was held with 50 private hospitals treating GBS patients, ensuring uniform treatment protocols. Additionally, a meeting with 802 private doctors from across the city was conducted to coordinate efforts in tackling the disease.
PCMC has confirmed that all municipal hospitals have an adequate supply of essential medicines. Furthermore, meetings have been conducted with the State Health Department and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to strengthen preventive measures. As part of the containment strategy, the municipal survey teams have screened 13,232 households so far.

While the outbreak is being closely monitored, authorities have reassured the public that there is no need to panic. The PCMC Health Department is fully prepared with preventive measures and treatment facilities, stated Dr. Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer, PCMC.
