Pune and its surrounding areas are witnessing a significant rise in temperature, with mercury levels touching 40°C in certain parts of the city. On Saturday (March 8), the overall maximum temperature recorded in Pune was 39°C, while the highest temperatures of the season so far—40°C—were reported in Lohegaon, Koregaon Park, and Chinchwad.
The increasing heatwave conditions have led to growing discomfort among residents, with a noticeable surge in temperature since the start of March. On Friday (March 7), Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 37°C, which rose by 2°C in just a day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures may continue to climb over the next three days.
Rising Heatwave Conditions
Over the past few days, significant atmospheric changes have been observed, resulting in a steady increase in temperature. The soaring mercury levels have intensified the heat, leaving citizens struggling with extreme conditions. While a slight dip in both maximum and minimum temperatures was observed in previous days, recent trends indicate a rising pattern.
According to IMD, there are no active cyclonic systems over Maharashtra at present, leading to continued dry weather conditions across the state, including neighboring Goa. Over the next four to five days, the weather is expected to remain dry and clear. In Pune and surrounding regions, the sky is likely to remain mostly clear for the next three days.
