Pune, 26 July 2025: To find solutions to the persistent traffic congestion in Pune's Hinjawadi IT Park area, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey conducted a field inspection of key roads and junctions on Friday. The visit followed a directive issued by the Maharashtra state government, urging prompt action to improve mobility in the region.
Choubey was accompanied by senior officials including Joint Commissioner of Police Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awhad, PMRDA’s Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Deputy Commissioners of Police Vivek Patil and Vishal Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kurade, and Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare from Hinjawadi Police Station. Members of the “Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park” initiative and several IT employees were also present.
During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed locations where traffic bottlenecks are a daily issue and suggested several practical measures to manage the flow better. These include diverting traffic at critical squares, introducing one-way systems in selected stretches, and enforcing changes on a trial basis for one month to assess their effectiveness.
He also pointed out the need to remove the MSEB (Maharashtra State Electricity Board) transformer box located near the service road beside the Hinjawadi Police Station flyover, which is currently obstructing traffic movement.
Some key areas identified for intervention include:
Regulating traffic at Jambhulkar Chowk and Indian Oil Petrol Pump junction.
Setting up barricades at Shell Petrol Pump Square to restrict vehicles moving against traffic.
Reviewing flow and congestion management near Mindtree Consulting junction.
Narrowing the metro station staircase near Croma Square to enable a free left turn.
Activating the free left at Wipro Circle to reduce signal wait times.
All these measures are part of an ongoing effort to improve everyday commuting conditions for the thousands of employees and residents who travel through the IT hub in Pune.
