Pune: The much-awaited Man-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro corridor, connecting Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, has reached a significant milestone, with 82 per cent of the work completed. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has assured that the metro will be operational by October 2025.

The project, undertaken under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, had faced delays earlier. Due to slow progress, PMRDA had issued a warning to the contractor and granted a six-month extension to expedite the work. Following this, construction has been moving at a rapid pace since July.

Key Updates on the Project:

  • The metro route is entirely elevated, covering 23.3 km and crossing the Pune-Bengaluru Highway and Mula River.

  • Baner, Sakal Nagar, and Civil Court stations are still under construction.

  • Work on stairways and key facilities at 11 stations is also pending.

  • Only one kilometer of viaduct construction remains.

  • Once structural work is completed, the metro will undergo safety inspections and a trial run.

Project Timeline and Cost:

  • Estimated Project Cost: ₹8,313 crore

  • Total Metro Route: 23.3 km

  • Number of Stations: 23

  • Stations Completed So Far: 12

According to PMRDA officials, work on the metro’s viaduct is progressing steadily, and as soon as it reaches completion, necessary safety checks will be conducted before the official launch. Commuters in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad can expect significant relief in traffic congestion once the metro becomes operational.

"Only one kilometer of viaduct work remains. Once most of the work is completed, a route safety inspection will be conducted, and the metro will be launched by October."
