Pune: Two bridges on Indrayani river, one near the new Municipal Council and other at Chakan Chowk, have been reopened for vehicular traffic on Friday (July 26).

However, the old bridge in front of the municipal council square remains closed due to silt accumulation. Cleanup efforts by the Alandi Municipal Council's fire department and employees are ongoing, and the bridge will be reopened once the silt is cleared.

Continuous rainfall over the past week has caused the Indrayani River's water level to rise significantly, leading to flooding in Alandi on Thursday (July 25). The floodwaters entered nearby dharamshalas and homes, prompting the closure of all four bridges in the area.

The bridge near Siddhabet Dam remains closed for safety reasons, with parts of the road washed away and potholes forming. Floodwaters have also washed away iron grills and toppled two electric poles near the bridge. Various debris, including wooden boards, has accumulated on the iron grills.

Meanwhile, in Juna Sangvi, residents have faced severe flooding due to continuous rain and heavy downpours in the Pavana and Mulshi dam areas.

Floodwaters have entered low-lying areas along the Mula and Pavana rivers, affecting multiple residential areas and displacing residents to municipal schools for shelter and food. The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Bridge (Spicer Road Bridge) has been closed to traffic due to rising water levels in the Mula River.

Civil engineer Sunil Dangde stated that the administration is actively monitoring the situation and has relocated affected residents from the Phugewadi Patra Chawl to the Meenatai Thackeray School.

The recurring issue of monsoon floods and the uncertainty of flood control measures has raised concerns among the public. The administration faced challenges managing the crowd that gathered to watch the river flow, with many engaging in unruly behavior and taking selfies.
