Pune: The Kalyaninagar Porsche car accident case has taken a significant turn as the police presented evidence in court against the accused, Dr. Ajay Taware, on Friday (January 10). Former forensic sciences department head Dr. Taware, who is among the key accused, has sought his name to be removed from the case by filing a formal plea. The court has scheduled the next hearing in this matter for January 15.
On the night of May 19, 2024, a tragic accident in Kalyaninagar claimed the lives of two young software engineers riding a motorbike. The Porsche involved in the accident was reportedly driven by the minor son of construction businessman Vishal Agarwal. Following the accident, the minor was taken into custody.
During a medical examination at Sassoon Hospital, it was alleged that Vishal Agarwal and his wife Shivani paid bribes to Dr. Ajay Taware, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shrihari Halnor, and assistant Atul Ghatkambale to manipulate medical evidence in their son’s favor. The police investigation later revealed that blood samples of the minor and his two friends were altered.
The state government’s medical education department subsequently authorized criminal proceedings against Dr. Taware, Dr. Halnor, and Ghatkambale. Dr. Taware’s plea seeking his exclusion from the case prompted the police to submit evidence in court.
In a related development, additional charges were filed against another accused, Arun Kumar Singh, for his involvement in tampering with the minor’s blood samples. This matter will also be heard on January 15.
The case involves a total of ten individuals who are currently in custody. This includes the minor’s parents Vishal and Shivani Agarwal, Sassoon doctors Dr. Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, assistant Atul Ghatkamble, and others such as Ashpak Basha Makandar, Amar Santosh Gaikwad, Arun Kumar Singh, Ashish Mittal, and Aditya Sood. Other accused in the case have been released on bail.
