Khed Tehsildar Reports Extortion Attempt Over Bogus Ration Cards

Following this revelation, an unidentified person sent messages to Tehsildar Devre, demanding ₹10 lakh to "settle" the matter.

Pune: Khed Tehsildar Jyoti Devre has filed a police complaint after receiving a ₹10 lakh extortion demand linked to a bogus ration card case. The incident has sparked concern within the Revenue Department.

As per Tehsildar Devre's complaint to the Khed police, the issue revolves around ration cards issued between 2015 and 2023 through the Supply Inspector's office.

An individual allegedly paid ₹4,000 online to secure one such card. During the subsequent investigation, several ration cards were found missing from the records.

Following this revelation, an unidentified person sent messages to Tehsildar Devre, demanding ₹10 lakh to "settle" the matter. The Tehsildar refused and reported the matter to the authorities, calling for a comprehensive probe into the incident.

Devre’s complaint names two individuals for investigation:

  • Sunil Kisan Nandkar, Senior Clerk of the Rehabilitation and Employment Guarantee Scheme at the Khed Tehsil office.

  • Mahesh Laxman Nehare, a beneficiary who allegedly acquired a bogus ration card.

Investigating police officer stated that the investigation is ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.

The direct extortion demand from the Tehsildar has caused unease within the Revenue Department. Officials have called for swift and strict action against those involved in the racket.
