Pune, 4th August 2025: BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has declared that he will begin actively following up on efforts to make Pune a noise-free city. This comes in light of earlier directions from the Bombay High Court, which had ordered action against unauthorized loudspeakers, especially on mosques, citing their contribution to noise pollution.

Somaiya said that the Mumbai Police Commissioner had already acted on the High Court’s order and ensured that loudspeakers were removed in the city. He urged the Pune Police Commissioner to take similar steps. He also pointed out that other cities like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Thane have already removed 60 to 70 percent of loudspeakers.

On Sunday, August 3, Somaiya visited Faraskhana and Vishrambaug police stations and interacted with senior officers. He later spoke to the media, stating that the High Court, in January 2025, had clearly directed that sound levels from loudspeakers should not exceed 50 decibels. He added that all police stations in Pune have now been sent official documents related to the court order.

Somaiya also mentioned that Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had declared in the Legislative Assembly that unauthorized loudspeakers will not be allowed. He criticized the lack of action by some local officers and said it is essential to follow the court's directive during religious events and daily prayers alike.

When asked about the recent acquittal of accused individuals in the Mumbai and Malegaon blast cases, Somaiya briefly commented that it is up to the state government to take appropriate steps on the matter.
