The body of 24-year-old Deepika was taken to her native village, Kudi Khera, amid an atmosphere of grief and anger, after her death in Greater Noida led to allegations of dowry-related harassment and murder.Police stated that Deepika is believed to have died by suicide after jumping from the roof of her home in the Ecotech-III area on the night of May 17, 2026. Her family alleged that she had faced ongoing dowry-related harassment since her marriage and had been under intense psychological pressure.
Relatives said efforts were made to save her after the incident, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Acting on a written complaint submitted by Deepika’s father, the police registered an FIR against her husband, Hritik, and her father-in-law, Manoj, under dowry harassment and other applicable provisions. Both were subsequently arrested and presented before a court, which ordered them to 14 days of judicial custody. Meanwhile, the house of Deepika’s in-laws in Jalpura village remains locked. It was from the upper floor of this same residence that she is alleged to have jumped.
Earlier, after being informed about the incident, the police took custody of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.However, Deepika’s family claims she was deliberately killed and has called for a comprehensive probe into the case. Officials stated that additional inquiries are in progress to determine the precise circumstances of her death.
