Lonavala Private Bungalows, Hotels and Resorts See High Bookings Ahead of New Year’s Eve

Pune: As the festive season begins, the popular hill station of Lonavala is preparing for an influx of tourists. With Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations in full swing, hotels, resorts, and private bungalows in the Lonavala-Khandala region are witnessing heavy bookings.

Many second homes are already fully occupied, and hotel bookings for Christmas have reached 60–70%. Most hotels and resorts are expected to be fully booked for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Lonavala, a city largely dependent on tourism, sees a significant number of visitors from Pune, Mumbai, and other states during this time. Tourists arrive to celebrate the New Year, enjoy the local delicacies like the famous Lonavala chikki, and revel in the natural beauty and attractions of the region.

Preferred Tourist Spots and Accommodations

Popular spots such as Pavana Maval, Rajmachi, Lohgad, Visapur, Tung, Karla, Korai Fort, Lion’s Point, and Khandala Sunset Point draw significant crowds. Boating spots in the region also remain a favorite. Tourists have increasingly preferred private bungalows over hotels and resorts for their stay.

Special Events to Attract Tourists

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) facility at Karla has already reached full capacity for New Year’s celebrations. Manager Vinayak Kale shared that special events are being planned to enhance the tourist experience.

Strict Adherence to Rules Required

Inspector Suhas Jagtap of the Lonavala city police has instructed private bungalow owners, hotel operators, and tent service providers to ensure all necessary permissions are in place and to comply with regulations. Violations during the Christmas and New Year period will attract strict action. Operators are advised to take adequate precautions to prevent unlawful activities.

Tourist Safety Advisory

Authorities have raised concerns over the increasing number of accidents, including drowning and vehicle mishaps, involving tourists. Last month, two young men tragically drowned in Pavana Dam during a boating trip. Similar incidents were reported at Kundmala, Kasarsai, and Bhushi Dam. Tourists are advised to exercise caution and prioritize safety while enjoying the festivities.
