Pune: A gold and silver heist worth ₹14 lakh at an NRI’s bungalow in Loni Kalbhor has been solved with the arrest of Sangatsingh Kalyani (45) by the Loni Kalbhor Police. The stolen valuables were hidden in a safe under a bed, and Kalyani managed to escape with them before being caught. The police have recovered gold jewelry and one kilogram of silver worth ₹9.5 lakh, and investigations are ongoing regarding the missing valuables.
The complainant, who works in the finance department of an oil company in Kuwait, owns a bungalow in the Tarde area of Loni Kalbhor. He visits his house three to four times a year. To secure his valuables, he had a hidden safe under his bed, which was further concealed with a tile. Inside the safe, he stored gold ornaments and silver items.
Upon returning to Pune on February 1, he discovered that the safe had been broken into and the jewelry was missing. He immediately lodged a complaint with the Loni Kalbhor Police Station.
During the investigation, the police noticed that the bungalow’s CCTV cameras had been turned off on January 31, suggesting a well-planned burglary. Acting on intelligence, Assistant Police Inspector Anil Jadhav and his team identified Sangatsingh Kalyani and his accomplice as the prime suspects.
Kalyani was arrested, and during interrogation, he confessed to committing the theft along with his partner. He also admitted to being involved in nine other burglary cases.
The police have launched a search for Kalyani’s accomplice, who had prior knowledge of the safe’s location. Investigators believe that the duo closely monitored the bungalow before executing the theft. Efforts are being made to determine how they gained information about the safe and how the stolen items were disposed of.
