Pune: Valentine’s Day turned into a memorable occasion for 35 couples in Pune who tied the knot through registered marriages. Among them were Vishwajeet Bhoite, an engineer, and Dr. Pragya Sargade, a doctor, whose love story blossomed through their shared passion for trekking.
Initially facing family opposition, the couple eventually received their families' blessings, leading them to choose February 14 as their wedding day. Their marriage, like several others that took place on this day, was solemnized at the Marriage Registration Office near Pune Station in the presence of their families and friends.
Rush at Marriage Registration Office
Since early morning on Friday (14th), the Marriage Registration Office saw a heavy rush of brides, grooms, and their families, with a mix of inter-caste and interfaith love marriages taking place. A decorative rangoli was drawn outside the office to mark the occasion.
One such couple, Parvez and Hema (names changed), met during college, completed their studies, secured jobs, and then decided to marry. After convincing their families, they registered their marriage on Valentine’s Day. Prominent personalities, including Shamsuddin Tamboli from the Muslim Satya Shodhak Mandal, attended the ceremony to bless the couples.
According to Sangeeta Jadhav, an official from the Marriage Registration Office, a total of 35 couples had applied for marriage registration on this day, making it one of the busiest days for the office.
Vishwajeet Bhoite and Dr. Pragya Sargade shared how their love story evolved: "We met through trekking, bonded over travel and food, and eventually fell in love. Over time, even our families' opposition faded. Today, with their blessings, we have begun our new journey together."
