Mumbai: In the early hours of Sunday (September 15) morning, a high-speed race between two luxury cars resulted in a major accident on Mumbai's Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

The drivers of a BMW and a Mercedes were racing at dangerous speeds when they lost control and crashed into a taxi, which was carrying a family of four, including a child. While the family members and the taxi driver sustained injuries, their lives were miraculously spared.

The incident took place around 10:30 AM near pillar number 19 on the bridge. The two luxury car drivers, racing against each other, lost control and collided with the taxi, causing it to overturn.

Worli police officers responded quickly to the scene, seizing both the BMW and Mercedes involved in the crash. The drivers were arrested and charged with reckless driving, engaging in illegal street racing, and culpable homicide, as they endangered lives with their actions.

Police reported that the passengers, though injured, were rushed to the hospital and are receiving treatment for their injuries. Initial reports indicate that there were no fatalities, and the family is expected to recover.

According to the police, both luxury cars were speeding across the Bandra-Worli Sea Link when the accident occurred. The drivers lost control and struck the taxi, flipping it over due to the force of the collision. Fortunately, the occupants of the taxi were saved, although they suffered minor to moderate injuries.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding the rising trend of illegal racing on public roads, especially on iconic stretches like the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident and have assured that strict action will be taken against those involved.
