COVID-19: Mild symptomatic patients won't get reserved hospital beds

Akshay Badwe

Mumbai: Even as Maharashtra continues to fight the rising Covid-19 positive cases, the government has taken a decision not to reserve the beds for the patients of COVID-19 who are having mild symptoms.

About 20,000 to 24,000 new COVID-19 cases are reported daily and providing critical care has become a worry due to the rising shortage of isolation beds with oxygen supply and beds under intensive care, at many hospitals in the state.

Therefore, the Department of Health has decided to keep patients with mild symptoms for further treatment at the Corona Care Centre (CCC) or at home. It has been decided that patients with mild symptoms will no longer be given hospital beds.

Against this backdrop, the health department has decided to isolate at home or admit patients with mild symptoms at COVID Care Centre if they are in their fifties and do not have comorbid diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The order in this regard was given by the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Dr Pradeep Vyas.

21,907 people were tested positive in Maharashtra while, 23,501 were discharged. This has now taken the tally of 8,57,933 patients cured and discharged from the hospitals. The total active patients are 2,97,480 while the recovery rate stands at 72.22 per cent.
