COVID-19: Mumbai police issues new guidelines as city opens up

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Sunday appealed Mumbaikars to follow the standards of personal safety and social distancing Mumbai which is worst hit by the COVID-19 has started giving relaxation under the Mission Begin Again guidelines issued.

“While many activities have been permitted under the Mission Begin Again guidelines issued by the State Government making the movement of people easier, the threat of COVID-19 still persists in the city. It is absolutely necessary that we all follow the norms of personal safety and social distancing,” the police statement read.

It adds, “Mumbai Police appeals to all citizens to adhere to the lockdown guidelines as issued by the State Government strictly and ensure the following while moving out.” Check out the new guidelines:

  • All outdoor movements should be restricted to essential events.
  • Wearing of face masks is mandatory.
  • Visit markets and salons shall be limited to those within a radius of 2 km from residence only.
  • Movement over 2 km is allowed only for attending office or medical crises.
  • Practicing social distancing is compulsory.
  • Stringent action will be taken against them who will violate the above norms.
  • Shops or markets not following social distancing norms will be shut down.
  • Night curfew between 9 pm to 5 am to remain in its place. Any violation of the night curfew shall be strictly punished.

Recognising the threat of the state, during COVID-19 outbreak the police said that the responsibility of beating coronavirus lies on all of us and we can accomplish this only when we follow the personal safety and social distancing at all times.

Meanwhile, the number of total cases in the state now stands at 1,59,133 which makes it the worst-hit state in the country. On the positive part of Mumbai, the city’s share in the state’s daily caseload is declining.
