Deepak Bhanudas Mulekar, a daily-wage worker from Loni Pravara in Rahata taluka, fell while carrying out roof work at his home on Sunday. He was immediately taken to Dr Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Pravara Rural Hospital in Ahilyanagar. Despite efforts by doctors, he did not respond to treatment and was later declared brain-dead.

Mulekar’s death left his family devastated. However, his wife and brother made the difficult decision to donate his organs. The hospital’s transplant committee completed the required legal formalities and coordinated the donation process under the guidelines of the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation.

His lungs were allocated to a patient at D Y Patil Hospital in Pimpri, while his liver was sent to Sahyadri Hospital in Pune. Both kidneys were sent to KIMS Manavata Hospital in Nashik for transplantation.

The family’s decision to donate Mulekar’s organs has given four patients suffering from organ failure a chance to continue their lives. Their decision has also highlighted how organ donation can turn a moment of immense personal loss into an opportunity to save others.
