Mumbai, 27th June 2026: The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) has postponed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, which was scheduled to be held across the state on June 28, following a suspected question paper leak in Bhiwandi.
The decision was taken after a police investigation indicated that confidential questions from the examination may have been compromised.
Bhiwandi Police acted on confidential information suggesting that a group of individuals was in possession of sensitive information related to the upcoming TET examination. During a raid, police recovered material suspected to be part of the question paper and immediately informed officials of the Maharashtra State Council of Examination for verification.
Officials compared the recovered material with the original question paper prepared for the June 28 examination. During the preliminary verification, several questions were found to match the official paper, raising serious concerns about the confidentiality of the examination.
Following this, a criminal case was registered at Bhiwandi Police Station against three accused, and further investigation is underway.
The TET examination was scheduled to be conducted at 1,728 examination centres across 37 cities, with 6,12,126 candidates expected to appear. The examination will now be conducted again at all centres after a fresh date is announced.
MSCE Deputy Commissioner Priya Shinde clarified that candidates who had already completed registration will not be required to register again, and no additional examination fee will be charged.
She said the candidates were not responsible for the incident and assured that the examination would be conducted transparently after all necessary security measures are completed.
Shinde further stated that the revised examination date is likely to be announced within the next two to three days on the official MSCE website.
She added that preparing for an examination of this scale involves a process of nearly three weeks, and strict action will be taken against everyone found responsible after the investigation is completed.
In a written statement, the Examination Council said maintaining the transparency and credibility of the Teacher Eligibility Test remains its highest priority. The examination has been postponed to allow a thorough investigation into the alleged paper leak and to ensure a fair examination process for all candidates.
