Maharashtra to recruit 5,295 police constables soon; Nagpur police to get body cameras

Nagpur: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has stated that the government will recruit 5,295 police constables soon while filling up 12,000 posts.

“A total of 12,000 posts of police constables will be filled in the state out of which 5,295 such posts will be filled in the first phase very soon. Necessary orders will be issued,” Deshmukh told media persons

MLA from Katol constituency in Nagpur district also said that the city’s crime rate has come down sharply compared to the year 2019.

“In 2019, Nagpur witnessed 90 murders in 2019 while this year 88 murders were reported. 147 cases of robbery were registered last year while the number of same cases came down to 127. A total of 21 chain- snatchings were witnessed this year compared to 56 last year,” he said. Similarly, 152 cases of rape were registered as compared to 163 such cases last year, he added.

He said the National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) 2019 data showed a high crime rate in Nagpur per one lakh population.

Meanwhile, police personnel in Nagpur, which is the second capital of Maharashtra will be given body cameras too. Deshmukh said a horse-mounted police unit would be constructed in Nagpur, on the lines of the Mumbai Police.
