Mumbai rains: Local train services stop; BEST diverted

Mumbai: Mumbaikars on Tuesday woke up to heavy rain, with the city which is already fighting hard against COVID-19 received more than 230 mm of rain in last 10 hours. The lifeline of Mumbai, the local train services has been affected due to heavy rains in Mumbai. As per reports from the BMC, trains on central, western and harbour lines have completely stopped.

Due to the overnight rains, Mumbai and the Central Railways on Tuesday suspended its suburban/local trains services between Vadala and Parel in the city.

Also, Western Railways has suspended special suburban service between Churchgate and Bandra.

According to MidDay, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) spokesperson Manoj Varade stated that due to waterlogging at 26 locations in Mumbai and suburbs a number of routes had been diverted or suspended.

The rain was constant through the night which led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Roads in areas such as Dadar TT, Goregaon, King Circle, Hindmata, Shivaji Chowk, Kurla ST Depot, Sion Road have been flooded. According to reports, there has also been a landslide on the Western Express Highway in Malad area with no causality reported.

The people in maximum parts of Mumbai were seen paddling through waist-deep water in several low-lying areas of the city.  The downpour has led to disturbance of transport services in Mumbai.
