Mumbai's air worse than Delhi; Maharashtra to witness unseasonal rain

The AQI of Mumbai increased on Thursday, overtaking New Delhi, amid cloudy conditions

Mumbai: In what should not be a record for the city of dreams, Mumbai overtakes Delhi in the Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI for Mumbai was 313 compared to Delhi’s 239.

The AQI of Mumbai increased on Thursday, overtaking New Delhi, amid cloudy conditions. Meanwhile, some predict that resumption of offices post-lockdown may increase in the pollution resulting the increase in AQI for past few days. A resident at Lower Parel said, "I everyday visit Bandra for office and in the evening, I return to South Mumbai. I noticed that the pollution has been increased. The weather has is gloomy too and felt that it would rain too."

On the other side, Meteorological Department predicts unseasonal rain along with thunderstorms for the next few days beginning Friday over coastal parts of Maharashtra, including Kolhapur, Mumbai, Pune, some part of Marathwada and Chandrapur.

The weather department also stated that next two days are crucial as these parts may report thunderstorms and rains which may affect rabi crops as well as mango production in the coastal region. According to Met department, due to low-pressure belt formed from South-Central Arabian Sea to Central Maharashtra, parts of the state may see unseasonal rains.
