PUNE: Union Minister of Commerce and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu inaugurated various amenities for railway passengers, including a new retiring room, foot over-bridge and construction of a new platform at the Chhatrapati Sahu Maharaj Terminus, Kolhapur. The station is within the jurisdiction of the Pune division.

Addressing the event, Prabhu said that, currently, passenger amenities are increasing at stations, and basic facilities such as escalators, pedestrian bridges are being provided at various stations across the country.

A two-storey retiring room / dormitory has been built for passengers at the Kolhapur station, which has 24 beds. Each room has been built at a cost of Rs 65 lakh. Besides, a 30-m long and 3.66-m wide foot over-bridge (FOB) has been built at a cost of Rs 2.33 crore at the second entry near the station, which will connect all platforms. A new additional platform accommodating 24 coaches has been proposed at the station, along with 80-m long platform number 3, for which Rs 10.12 crore have been approved.

Milind Deouskar, Divisional Railway Manager, Chandrakant Patil, Minister of Revenue and Public Works of Maharashtra Government, MP Dhananjay Mahadik, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje, Amal Mahadik, Mayor Sarita More, Pratapsingh Jadhav, Krishnath Patil, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Dr AK Singh, Senior Public Relation Officer of Central Railway were present.
