Pune: A 21-year-old man from Baramati has been arrested for creating a fake Instagram account and posting obscene content about a minor schoolgirl, leading to public outrage and police intervention.

The accused, Pavan Rajendra Kshirsagar (21), a resident of Dhakale, Baramati, accessed a photo of the minor girl from her father’s Instagram account. He took a screenshot, created a fake Instagram ID, and uploaded her pictures with vulgar and defamatory text, which quickly spread across the platform. The girl’s family noticed the inappropriate content and reported the matter to the Malegaon Police Station, leading to an official investigation.

Acting swiftly, Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Lokhande instructed Police Naik Sandeep Sanap to contact Meta Platforms (the parent company of Instagram and Facebook) for account details. The data analysis from Meta helped trace the accused, leading to his identification.

Based on the technical evidence, the Malegaon Police registered a case against an unknown person and assigned the further investigation to Police Inspector Vaishali Patil. Recognizing the seriousness of the case, she formed a special investigation team, which successfully tracked and arrested the accused.

The accused was presented before the Baramati court, where he was remanded to police custody until April 1 for further questioning.
