Pune: A case has been registered at the Manchar Police Station against a woman accused of practicing medicine without a valid medical degree and her husband, a registered doctor, for allegedly facilitating her fraudulent activities.
The accused have been identified as Deepmala Harish Khamkar and her husband, Dr. Harish Khamkar.
The incident came to light when a complainant sought dental treatment at Harirup Dental Clinic in Manchar, located in Ambegaon taluka.
According to the complaint, Deepmala Khamkar treated the patient despite lacking a recognized medical qualification. She prescribed medication on her clinic’s letterhead and charged ₹1,200 as consultation fees.
Following the treatment, the complainant raised concerns and submitted a written complaint to the Taluka Health Officer and the Group Development Officer of the Ambegaon Panchayat Samiti. The complaint demanded legal action against Deepmala and her husband.
In response, the authorities formed an inquiry committee led by the Taluka Health Officer. On November 28, 2024, the committee conducted an on-site investigation at the Harirup Dental Clinic.
The inquiry revealed that Deepmala lacked the requisite qualifications and registration to practice dentistry but had treated the complainant for financial gain. Furthermore, her husband, Dr. Harish Khamkar, was found to have supported her activities.
Following the inquiry's findings, the Taluka Health Officer lodged a formal complaint with the Manchar Police. A case has since been registered against the couple under relevant legal provisions.
The investigation is currently being led by Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Badgujar under the supervision of Police Inspector Shrikant Kankal.
