Pune: A major fraud case has surfaced in Pune where a businessman from Hadapsar was cheated of ₹40 lakh by six individuals under the pretense of securing medical admission for his daughter.

The Hadapsar Police have filed a case against Sunil Kumar (45), Saurabh Gupta (40), Vikas Gupta (28), Randhir Singh (30), Priyanka Mishra, and one other unidentified individual.

According to police reports, the complainant resides in Magarpatta City, Hadapsar. His daughter was aspiring to pursue a medical course. Through an acquaintance, he was introduced to the accused, who are based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

In August 2022, the businessman met the accused, who assured him that they could secure admission for his daughter in a private medical college. Believing their claims, the businessman paid them ₹60 lakh over several transactions, both in cash and through online payments.

However, despite the payments, his daughter did not receive admission. When he confronted the accused, they provided vague and evasive answers.

Upon demanding his money back, the accused refunded ₹20 lakh but failed to repay the remaining ₹40 lakh. Realizing that he had been duped, the businessman approached the Hadapsar Police to lodge a complaint.

The police have since registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is being carried out by Assistant Inspector Deepak Barge under the supervision of Senior Inspector Sanjay Mogle. Efforts are ongoing to recover the defrauded amount and apprehend all those involved.
