Pune, 25 July 2025: In a move to encourage metro travel among students, Pune Metro has launched a special initiative offering a free ‘One Pune Student Pass’. The initiative, aimed at students across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, will run from July 25 to September 15, 2025.
Under this scheme, students pursuing education up to the undergraduate level can obtain the pass at no cost after completing a KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. However, a mandatory recharge of ₹200 is required at the time of collection. This top-up amount will be fully available for use, with no additional charge deducted for the card itself.
With the student pass, commuters will receive a 30% discount on every metro ride, making daily travel more affordable for the city’s large student population. Additionally, students below 18 years of age can apply using their parent’s identification documents, while school or college ID is necessary for all applicants.
The initiative comes at a time when a new academic year has begun, and Pune Metro is seeing increasing ridership. According to Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha-Metro, Pune Metro currently sees over 1.9 lakh daily commuters, with students forming a significant portion. He said the offer is designed to help more students shift to metro travel at the start of the school and college year.
Already, more than 25,000 students have availed the card since its rollout, and authorities are urging all educational institutions to spread awareness and encourage participation. The passes are available at all metro stations, and Pune Metro officials are expecting a further spike in student ridership in the coming weeks.
This free pass initiative not only helps reduce travel expenses for students but also aligns with Pune Metro’s efforts to promote eco-friendly and efficient urban mobility across the city.
