Pune: In a surprising turn of events, four female students were expelled from a government-run hostel in Moshi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, after they ordered pizza for dinner. The decision was taken by hostel warden Meenakshi Narhare, sparking outrage and confusion among students and parents.
According to sources, the incident occurred two days ago when a group of hostel residents decided to order pizza for their meal. Upon learning about it, Narhare strongly objected and took immediate action. Since it was unclear which of the four students had placed the order, she imposed a one-month entry ban on all four.
The Social Welfare Department, which oversees the hostel, has also expressed surprise over this decision. As per hostel regulations, no outsiders are allowed inside the premises, and bringing food from outside is strictly prohibited for security reasons.
The students' actions were deemed a violation of these rules, leading to disciplinary measures. A formal letter informing the students and their parents about the ban has been issued.
Parents of the affected students have raised concerns over the harsh action, questioning whether the Social Justice Department has officially authorized such penalties. Meanwhile, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, who has been proactive since assuming office, recently conducted inspections of student hostels in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
During his visit, he warned officials about the issues faced by students and assured that the government would take necessary steps to improve their living conditions.
