Pune: The Shivajinagar Motor Vehicle Court has sentenced two individuals to jail terms and imposed a ₹20,000 fine each for drunk driving in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

As per the court’s ruling, Dattatray Atish Tipre (26, resident of Sane Chowk, Chikhali) has been sentenced to four days of simple imprisonment, while Rajkumar Garjuprasad Bharti (45, resident of Ganesh Temple, Nehrunagar) has been sentenced to three days of simple imprisonment.

Both individuals were caught driving under the influence of alcohol last year, following which the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police registered cases against them. The matter was presented before the Shivajinagar Motor Vehicle Court, which found them guilty and issued the sentences.

Traffic Police Intensifies Action Against Drunk Driving
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has identified drunk driving as a significant public safety concern. Driving under the influence reduces vehicle control, increases the risk of accidents, and puts both drivers and pedestrians at risk.

To curb this dangerous behavior, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police has intensified legal action against offenders, regularly filing cases in court. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar, strict enforcement aims to prevent road accidents and protect lives.

"To ensure road safety and avoid legal consequences, motorists should refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating substances," said DCP Bangar.

272 Drunk Driving Cases Registered on Holi
On Holi, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police conducted breathalyzer tests to check for drunk driving. During the drive, 272 individuals were found violating the law.

Cases have been registered against all offenders, and further legal action will be taken through the court system. Offenders may be summoned for hearings, and the court could impose fines or even cancel their driving licenses, according to police sources.
