Pune: A Pune court has extended the police custody of Naresh Agarchand Jain, a 48-year-old resident of Girgaon, Mumbai, who is accused of stealing a gold crown and chain from a flat in Salisbury Park, Pune, and selling them at Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai.

The decision came after the Swargate Police sought more time for investigation.

The stolen gold crown and chain were reportedly sold to Sunny Metkari, the owner of Mica Refinery Works in Zaveri Bazaar.

The Swargate Police have served Metkari a notice under Section 35(3) of the Indian Penal Code, requiring him to appear at the police station for further questioning regarding his involvement.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Bhagyashree Sancheti (Dagale) informed the court that the theft was a serious offense and that police were investigating the possibility of additional accomplices.

Based on the request for further investigation, the court extended Jain’s custody until Monday, December 9.

The stolen jewelry, valued significantly, is believed to have been sold soon after the theft. The police are focusing on recovering the stolen items and establishing whether the accused acted alone or was part of a larger network.

The case has also raised questions about accountability among buyers in high-value transactions involving stolen goods. Authorities are continuing to pursue leads to ensure justice in the case.
