Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport from the United States on Saturday morning and applied for permission to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar, receiving clearance within minutes of his arrival.
Delhi Police stated that permission was given as a "one-time exception" under specific terms and conditions, noting that it had eased the usual procedural rule requiring advance notice for such demonstrations. Under normal protocol, applications must be filed at least 10 days beforehand, but this requirement was set aside in this case.
Soon after arriving, Dipke wrote on X, calling on supporters to assemble at Jantar Mantar. He asked them to bring a book and the national flag, and to present flowers to the police officers."We have to lead this movement with love and peace," he wrote.
Hundreds of demonstrators assembled at the site, with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk also attending the protest. The authorization for the gathering was valid until 5 PM.The rally carried a single demand: the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Demonstrators cited the NEET-UG paper leak and the controversy surrounding CBSE's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, which has left thousands of students awaiting clarity on their board results.
The Cockroach Janta Party was founded on May 16, 2026, after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant compared unemployed youth to "cockroaches" and "parasites of society" during a Supreme Court hearing. The movement, initially satirical in nature, has since grown into an organised campaign with over 22 million Instagram followers.
After the protest, Dipke declared on X that the day was "just a trailer," warning that the group would escalate to a nationwide agitation if the Education Minister was not dismissed within seven days. He also disclosed that his parents had been forced to leave their home over the past two weeks due to threats.
