Pune police have arrested a doctor from Navi Mumbai in connection with the abetment to suicide of a young female doctor Pallavi Popat Fadtare. The accused allegedly misled the victim by falsely claiming to be unmarried and took over ₹10 lakh from her, leading to her mental distress and eventual suicide.

The accused has been identified as Dr. Kuldeep Adinath Sawant, 30, a resident of Umarani Road, Shankar Colony, Jat, in Sangli district. He was living in Pune at the time of the incident.

According to police reports, Dr. Sawant registered himself as unmarried on the matrimonial website Jeevansathi.com, despite being previously married. The victim's father, Popat Fadtare, approached Dr. Sawant for a potential marriage alliance. However, after meeting him and visiting his clinic, he found Dr. Sawant’s behavior and setup inappropriate, and the proposal was rejected.

Ignoring the rejection, Dr. Sawant directly contacted the victim, Dr. Pallavi, via her mobile phone. He befriended her and convinced her that he was unmarried.

Over time, he gained her trust and extracted more than ₹10 lakh from her. He failed to repay the amount, causing immense emotional distress to Dr. Pallavi, which ultimately led her to take her own life.

The Bibwewadi police registered a case under abetment to suicide and other relevant charges. Following an investigation under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde, Assistant Commissioner Dhanyakumar Godse, and Senior Police Inspector Shankar Salunkhe, a team led by Sub-Inspector Shashank Jadhav arrested Dr. Sawant from Navi Mumbai.
