Pune: In a move to facilitate New Year celebrations, the Pune District Collector has permitted restaurants, bars, and party venues in the city to remain open until 5 AM on two specific days—Wednesday, December 25, and Tuesday, December 31. However, liquor sales will be allowed only until 1 AM on these days.

The state government had earlier granted approval for extended celebrations until 5 AM for both Christmas and New Year, prompting the District Collector to issue the directives for Pune. Accordingly, citizens can enjoy New Year parties and events until the early hours of the morning.

For Christmas celebrations, the city saw numerous party applications, with 50 event organizers seeking approval from the Excise Department. These requests have been granted with the condition that the permissions are valid only for one day. Pune has nearly 3,000 liquor shops catering to the festive demand.

Superintendent of the State Excise Department, Charansingh Rajput, issued a cautionary statement urging citizens to abide by the law during the celebrations.

He emphasized that unauthorized parties are strictly prohibited and warned against consuming alcohol in non-designated areas. Citizens have been advised to celebrate responsibly while adhering to legal norms.
