The autopsy report of a 24-year-old woman, whose family claims she was killed due to dowry demands in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has revealed disturbing details about the circumstances of her death, which reportedly occurred on Sunday night.
The woman passed away on Sunday night after reportedly falling from the terrace of her three-storey marital home in Jalpura village, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
'Brain bleeding': Shocking findings in autopsy
The woman’s autopsy reportedly revealed a brain hemorrhage, ruptured internal organs, and numerous bruises on her body. Viscera samples have also been retained for forensic examination.
The postmortem report, as cited by the PTI news agency, noted bleeding from the victim’s left nostril and mouth. It further indicated the presence of a hematoma in the central and left regions of the brain.
The report further noted that the liver, spleen, and right kidney were ruptured along with contusions on the arm and thigh.
According to the report, the internal organs have been preserved to check for the presence of any toxic substances. Earlier on Tuesday, officers at the Ecotech-3 police station said that the precise cause of death remained unknown and that the doctors had not yet issued a final opinion.
Allegations by woman's family
The woman’s family, however, claimed she was killed by her in-laws due to dowry demands and insisted it was neither a suicide nor an accident.
Police have taken her husband and father-in-law into custody, while efforts continue to arrest the other individuals named in the FIR, which has been filed under sections pertaining to dowry death. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailendra Kumar Singh previously stated that the case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman’s father. According to the complaint, the woman called her father on Sunday afternoon in tears and allegedly informed him that her in-laws were assaulting her over dowry demands.
The family claimed that the in-laws had been demanding a Toyota Fortuner SUV along with an additional ₹45–50 lakh in cash. Her father stated that he, along with some relatives, went to her marital home at around 7 pm on Sunday in an attempt to settle the dispute.
He claimed that at about 12.30 am, the family received a call from her in-laws stating that she had fallen and requesting that they come to Sharda Hospital.
The father had earlier stated, "When I arrived at the hospital, I found my daughter lying dead," alleging that her body showed several injury marks and what seemed to be wounds inflicted with a screwdriver.
My daughter has been murdered over dowry demands," he was quoted as saying by the PTI news agency. He further alleged that the accounts provided by her in-laws about the incident were inconsistent.
He claimed, "I asked them where she had fallen, and the in-laws first said it was from the stairs. Later, they stated it was from the roof."
On Monday, the woman’s family alleged that although her in-laws said she died after falling from the terrace, the injuries on her body did not seem consistent with such a fall.
The family asserted that, rather than injuries normally linked to a fall from a height, her body bore marks that indicated she had been assaulted.
On Monday, her father claimed that his daughter's body showed marks that seemed to have been inflicted with a screwdriver.
According to the woman’s aunt, she was allegedly pushed from the building and, after surviving the fall, was then either stabbed or shot.
The family also claimed that within just a few months of her December 2024 marriage, she faced both psychological and physical abuse.Police stated that the postmortem examination was recorded on video, and that further legal provisions would be applied based on the findings of the investigation and forensic reports.
