After Public Criticism, Parthiban Gifts TN CM Vijay Handwritten Letter and Custom Painting

Actor-director seeks to mend ties with personal gesture after backlash over remarks on Tamil Nadu chief minister

Filmmaker and actor Parthiban had openly criticised Trisha Krishnan after she attended a wedding with Vijay just days after reports emerged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, had filed for divorce. Now, several months later, the filmmaker has met Vijay and presented him with distinctive gifts, including a handwritten letter.

Parthiban’s unique gifts for Vijay

Parthiban met Vijay to personally congratulate him on his victory in the Tamil Nadu election. Photos from their meeting show the two smiling as they pose together. In one image, Parthiban is seen gifting Vijay a custom painting he had commissioned in his honour, portraying the actor-turned-politician in a regal, vintage-style outfit with a throne at his side. Another image features a handwritten note that Parthiban penned as a tribute to Vijay.

In one corner of the painting, there is a handwritten note in Tamil by Parthiban for Vijay. Its approximate translation is: “From the world of cinema to the Chief Minister’s chair! To establish calm, orderly governance, marked by sacred sandalwood paste Vijay, the great intellectual, rises to the throne and takes his place in power. Congratulations to the Chief Minister who is shaking up the political landscape!”

Several fans found it amusing that Parthiban was lavishing Vijay with gifts despite his earlier criticism. “He’s the one who went viral for his remarks about Trisha!” one fan commented. Another Instagram user wrote, “This whole situation is uncomfortable! First, he spoke about Trisha and she had to call him out and post against him, to which he responded poorly. Second, in a democratic country, calling the Chief Minister a KING and EMPEROR is such nonsense.”

What did Parthiban say about Trisha Krishnan?

In March, Vijay and Trisha grabbed headlines when they appeared at a wedding in Chennai dressed in coordinated outfits. This happened just days after reports emerged that Sangeeta had cited infidelity in her divorce petition. Commenting on Trisha’s photo from an event and alluding to her Ponniyin Selvan character, Parthiban said, “This Kundavai should be kept at home for a few days. That’s good. Don’t let her come out.”

Following intense backlash, Parthiban issued a clarification in a video, stating, “Many are now asking why I am criticising the woman (Trisha) for attending the wedding reception but not the man (Vijay). I want to make it clear that people are reacting only to a part of the video. Whether right or wrong, the man has an equal share of responsibility.” He further asserted that the controversy should have been postponed until after the elections.

Trisha, however, openly condemned Parthiban for his remark. “A microphone doesn’t make a comment smart or funny; it only amplifies foolishness. Vulgar words spoken without understanding reveal more about the speaker than about the person they target,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). She also alleged that her name and photograph were added at the last moment at someone’s request.
