Pune: Passengers using the Yerawada Metro Station on the Vanaz-Ramwadi Metro Corridor have been facing severe inconvenience due to the unavailability of drinking water for the past three months. Despite spending ₹12,000 crore on the metro project, basic amenities such as clean restrooms and drinking water remain neglected.
Commuters have expressed frustration over MahaMetro’s failure to provide essential facilities. However, MahaMetro has placed the blame on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), claiming that contaminated water supply from PMC forced them to shut down the drinking water facility at the station.
Yerawada Metro Station, located at Gunjan Chowk, experiences high passenger traffic daily, including travelers heading towards Vishrantwadi and Pune Airport from various parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Metro commuter Sanjay Shitole, who raised a complaint with MahaMetro, was disappointed with the response from the authorities. After multiple complaints, he was informed that the water facility had been discontinued due to unhygienic supply from PMC.
Apart from the drinking water crisis, passengers have also raised concerns about poor restroom maintenance across metro stations. Several complaints have surfaced regarding:
Unclean water in toilets
Non-functional sinks with no running water
Lack of soap and other hygiene essentials
Recently, photos of the unhygienic condition of Pune Metro Station’s restrooms were widely shared by passengers, bringing the issue to public attention.
With mounting complaints about drinking water shortages and unclean restrooms, commuters are demanding that MahaMetro take immediate action to improve basic facilities at metro stations.
