Pune: Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents in the city, highlighting growing concerns over road safety. The incidents occurred in the Hadapsar area and the Loni Kalbhor region along the Pune-Solapur highway.
Hadapsar Accident: Pedestrian Killed by Speeding Bike
In Hadapsar, a pedestrian died while undergoing treatment after being hit by a speeding two-wheeler. The incident took place in front of Sanjeevani Hospital. The victim, Vitthal Dattu Mardhekar (49), a resident of Power House, Fursungi, Hadapsar-Saswad Road, was walking along the road when a speeding bike hit him from behind, causing severe injuries to his leg.
He was immediately taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His wife, Chanda Mardhekar (40), filed a complaint at the Hadapsar police station, following which a case was registered against the unknown biker, who fled the scene after the accident. Assistant Police Inspector Parvez Shikalgar is investigating the case.
Pune-Solapur Highway Crash: Young Biker Dies in Collision with Container Truck
In another tragic accident, a young man riding as a pillion on a motorcycle was killed when a high-speed container truck rammed into their bike. The incident occurred near Manjari on the Pune-Solapur highway.The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Kailas Indalkar (23), a resident of Kavdipat, Loni Kalbhor, while the injured biker, Suraj Kadam (18), is also from the same area.
According to police reports, Suraj and Saurabh, who were relatives, were traveling on the Pune-Solapur highway on Monday (March 10) at around 1 AM when a speeding container truck hit their motorcycle from behind near Shewalwadi in Manjari. Saurabh sustained critical injuries, and Suraj was also injured.
Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the scene and transported both victims to a private hospital. However, doctors declared Saurabh dead before treatment could begin. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident. A case has been registered against him, and Assistant Police Inspector Deepak Berge is leading the investigation.
