Pune: A 40-year-old patient from Rajgurunagar, Khed Taluka, suffered serious injuries after jumping from the third floor of Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Tuesday (March 25) afternoon. The patient had arrived at the hospital with his mother, who was in the process of obtaining case papers when the incident occurred.
According to witnesses, the patient went to the third floor and jumped down, sustaining severe injuries to his legs and body. The incident caused panic among hospital staff and visitors. Doctors and police officials quickly responded to the scene, and the injured patient was immediately admitted for treatment at YCM Hospital.
Possible Mental Health Concerns
While the exact reason behind the jump remains unknown, Senior Police Inspector Gorakh Kumbhar of Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station indicated that the patient may have been suffering from a mental illness. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
High Patient Load at YCM Hospital
YCM Hospital, a 700-bed facility, is one of Pimpri-Chinchwad’s largest municipal hospitals. Other major healthcare centers in the city include Jijamata Hospital, Thergaon Hospital, Akurdi Hospital, and Bhosari Hospital.
Additionally, the city has:
8 maternity homes
28 dispensaries
20 health centers in slum areas
8 family planning centers
38 vaccination centers
These facilities provide essential medical services to local residents. However, a large number of patients from neighboring Pune district areas, including Khed, Chakan, Ambegaon, and Junnar, seek treatment at YCM Hospital, significantly increasing the hospital’s workload. To address this issue, a new 850-bed hospital is planned in Moshi to help reduce patient congestion at YCM Hospital and enhance healthcare infrastructure in the region.
