Pune: In a year-long operation, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested 33 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in various parts of the city under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. The city, known for its robust industrial sector, has long been a hub for migrants from across the country. However, authorities have observed a growing presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
The arrests have primarily been made in areas such as Mahalunge, Nigdi, Pimpri, Bhosari, Bhosari MIDC, Sangvi, Dapodi, Chakan, Talegaon MIDC, and Dehuroad. The Bhosari area recorded the highest number of arrests, with 12 Bangladeshi nationals detained. Investigations revealed that these individuals were residing in the region using forged documents such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and other forms of identification. These documents were confiscated during the police operations.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of identifying and apprehending those involved in creating and supplying counterfeit identification documents to these immigrants. Among the arrested individuals, some had valid passports that have since been revoked by the police.
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey stated that the campaign to identify and detain illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants will be intensified in the coming months. The police are committed to addressing the root causes of the issue and ensuring stricter action against those violating immigration laws.
