Pune: A six-year-old boy from Pimpri-Chinchwad has made a remarkable recovery from Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder. The child, who had been facing difficulty in movement and coordination, was diagnosed with the illness after being admitted to a private hospital in Aundh. Following intensive medical care, including ventilator support, doctors successfully treated him, and he has now fully recovered.

The child initially struggled to hold a pencil, followed by fever and diarrhea after consuming samosas from a local shop. While his entire family experienced similar symptoms, the child's fever persisted, and within days, he began to struggle with walking and even standing up.

On January 14, while playing with his younger brother, he suddenly collapsed and was unable to get back on his feet, prompting his family to seek urgent medical attention.

At Aundh hospital, doctors conducted MRI and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) tests, which confirmed GBS. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to a ventilator, with doctors inserting a tube to facilitate oxygen supply directly to his lungs. With extensive medical efforts, the child has now made a full recovery.

The child's recovery comes amid a worrying increase in GBS cases across Maharashtra. According to reports, 10 new cases have been identified, raising the total number of cases to 140 in the state.

• 78 cases have been reported in newly merged areas of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

• 26 cases are from PMC, 15 from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), 10 from Pune Rural, and 11 from other districts.

• Currently, 45 patients are in ICUs, while 18 remain on ventilators.

• 25 patients have recovered and been discharged, while the death toll has reached 5.
