Pune: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Pimpri-Chinchwad has uncovered a racket involving the creation and distribution of fake police verification certificates (PCCs).
Two agents, identified as Sandeep Bansode and Sunil Rokade, have been booked for their alleged involvement in the operation, which has been active since 2021.
Investigations have revealed that the accused charged ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 per certificate, issuing them to individuals like drivers, security guards, and housekeeping staff.
Fake certificates bearing the names of genuine police stations, such as Chatuhshrungi and Yerawada, as well as fictitious police stations, have been uncovered.
The ATS reported that sensitive positions in a reputed company were also filled by individuals possessing fake verification certificates. A total of 41 fraudulent PCCs have been identified so far, many created using forged residency documents.
The racket primarily operated in the Dighi, Alandi, and Charholi areas. The fraudulent activities spanned from 2021 to November 2024 under the jurisdiction of Tata Communications, previously part of Videsh Sanchar Nigam.
Police official Pundalik Patil filed a complaint at the Dighi Police Station, leading to cases against Bansode, Rokade, and others involved in creating and distributing the forged documents.
According to police sources, the accused used counterfeit residency proofs and enlisted the help of unknown individuals to fabricate the documents. The certificates were designed to appear authentic and deceive officials.
Police Sub-Inspector Katpale is leading the ongoing investigation to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify additional suspects.
