Pimpri-Chinchwad: PSI Killed in Accident While Returning Home After New Year Duty

The deceased officer, Jitendra Girnar, was posted at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. Girnar had been on duty day and night for the New Year’s Eve security arrangements.

Pune: A police sub-inspector lost his life in a tragic road accident while returning home after completing his New Year’s Eve security duty. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning near Mahalunge, leaving the police force in Pimpri-Chinchwad in mourning.

The deceased officer, Jitendra Girnar, was posted at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. Girnar had been on duty day and night for the New Year’s Eve security arrangements.

Around dawn on Wednesday (January 1, 2025), while driving home near the Mahindra Company, a container truck ahead of him, traveling in the right lane, suddenly swerved into the left lane. Unable to react in time, Girnar’s car collided with the back of the container. The severe impact left him critically injured, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Tributes from the Police Force

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of the officer. Girnar was known for his dedication and service. He had been a part of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police force for several years and was previously posted at Wakad Police Station before his recent transfer to Mahalunge MIDC Police Station.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate had deployed a total of 1,819 police personnel from the night of December 31 to the early hours of January 1 to ensure public safety and law enforcement.

Separate Incident Claims Life of Woman in Dighi

In another incident on Wednesday morning, a woman lost her life while on a morning walk near Sai Temple in Dighi. She was struck by a vehicle, leading to her death on the spot.
