Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in Hyderabad has triggered widespread debate online, particularly after one specific appeal resonated strongly with working professionals and internet users. Described by many as one of his most serious and strategically framed public speeches in recent times, PM Modi called on citizens and organisations to once again give precedence to the work-from-home model wherever it is feasible.

The remarks come amid global uncertainty, escalating geopolitical tensions, and worries about fuel supply disruptions that are straining economies across the world. In contrast to the pandemic-era shift to working from home, which was motivated by health concerns, the Prime Minister this time presented remote work as an economic and strategic policy intended to cut fuel use and lessen reliance on imported oil.

In his address, PM Modi highlighted the need to cut down on avoidable travel and embrace more sustainable commuting practices. He said, “We should once again give priority to working from home, online conferences, and virtual meetings,” while also urging people to rely more on metro services, public transportation, and carpooling whenever feasible.

The appeal quickly spread across social media, prompting strong reactions from users. Many people jokingly associated the remark with their wish for permanent remote work arrangements, while others interpreted it as a sensible reaction to increasing global uncertainty and economic challenges.

One user wrote, "Bring back WFH culture? Ab batao, who’s going to tell my manager?"

Another user remarked, "Sir, please ask companies to make work-from-home mandatory. Employees should not be the ones deciding this based on what they see on social media."

Another user remarked, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged people to work from home to conserve fuel as prices rise. If employees can maintain full productivity remotely, then why insist on mandatory office attendance and needless daily commuting? Working from home is both practical and efficient."

One user commented that Indian IT companies should give serious thought to implementing Work From Home or hybrid work models, as recommended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, in order to help reduce traffic congestion, pollution, fuel usage, and the strain on urban infrastructure.
