Pune: The Pune District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has approved 32,118 housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) within a week, as part of the state government’s target to construct 38,827 houses in the district this year. The remaining 6,709 houses are expected to be sanctioned soon.

The PMAY initiative aims to provide permanent housing for every eligible citizen in the district. The highest number of housing approvals has been granted to Indapur taluka (4,700 houses), followed by Junnar (4,144 houses) and Baramati (3,402 houses). The lowest number of approvals has been recorded in Mulshi taluka, with 734 beneficiaries.

The sanctioning process is gaining momentum under the 100-day action plan, ensuring that the approved housing units are allocated without delays.

Pending Approvals and Required Documentation

The 6,709 pending applications are primarily due to missing Aadhaar details. Officials have urged applicants awaiting approval to:

  • Link their Aadhaar card to their bank account to meet eligibility criteria.

  • Submit proof of land ownership to the Gram Panchayat or Panchayat Samiti to expedite the approval process.

"Beneficiaries should not fall prey to false promises. Approval will be granted based on proper documentation and eligibility," said Shalini Kadu, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency.

Transparency and Next Steps for Beneficiaries

Under Phase II of PMAY, the list of approved beneficiaries will be displayed at Gram Panchayat offices to keep applicants informed and transparent. This initiative will also help those awaiting approval to track their application status. Additionally, Gajanan Patil, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad, has urged approved beneficiaries to begin construction immediately.
