Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved two new metro corridors: Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹5,704 crore, has received approval from both the Standing Committee and the General Body of PMC. The corporation will contribute only ₹3.60 crore towards land acquisition.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and MahaMetro have prepared a Comprehensive Transportation Development Plan to address the growing transport needs of Pune and its suburbs. The proposed metro corridors align with this plan to accommodate the city's future expansion and development.

Project Overview:

  • Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor: An 11.5-kilometer metro corridor with 10 stations, of which six are within PMC limits and four fall in rural areas.

  • Hadapsar to Saswad: A 5.57-kilometer stretch featuring two metro stations within PMC limits.

During a recent meeting of the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA), it was decided to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for both metro routes. The report has now been finalized and approved by PMC.

Funding and Implementation:

The Central and State Governments will each contribute 20% of the project cost.

  • The remaining 60% of the funding will be secured through loans.

  • PMC will not bear any financial liability for the loan component.

Once the proposal is approved by the Central and State Governments, PMC will sign an agreement with MahaMetro and provide ₹3.60 crore for land acquisition. Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale confirmed the funding structure and emphasized that the new metro corridors will help ease congestion in the eastern part of the city.
