Pune, 20 August 2025: Pune has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few days, but the city has largely remained safe from waterlogging and floods. Civic officials credited this to the removal of encroachments from riverbeds and drains, as well as pre-monsoon preparations carried out by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said that although heavy rainfall was recorded in the catchment areas of the Khadakwasla dam, no flood-like situation arose this year. He explained that the irrigation department had kept the reservoir at half its capacity before the rains, which helped control the water flow into the Mula-Mutha river.

While 16 locations in Pune, including Wanowrie, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, Chandni Chowk, and Karvenagar, did report waterlogging, officials confirmed that the water was drained quickly and no major damage was caused. The Disaster Management Cell received complaints but addressed them on time.

PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said that permanent measures were taken at several vulnerable spots, and this prevented water from entering flood-prone areas like Patil Estate, Ekta Nagari, and Khilari Vasti. He added that the corporation is prepared to relocate citizens if needed, though the situation has remained under control.

Officials also noted that rainfall is expected to reduce from tomorrow, further easing concerns. Both the district administration and the municipal corporation assured that Pune and surrounding areas, including Pimpri-Chinchwad, are not facing any dangerous conditions despite the ongoing downpour.
