Pune, 18 August 2025: Tension gripped Mundhwa late Sunday night when a brawl outside a pub spiralled into chaos and drew angry reactions from local residents. The incident took place outside Sway All Day Bar, where an intoxicated customer allegedly smashed beer bottles on the road and attacked a local resident.
The scuffle quickly escalated as more people gathered at the spot. When residents confronted the pub owner about repeated disturbances, he allegedly issued threats instead of offering an explanation. This angered the crowd further, and they began protesting outside the establishment.
Former corporator Gauri Pingale led the residents in shouting slogans and forcing the pub to shut down. Police arrived in time to stop the mob from damaging the property and temporarily evacuated the premises to restore order.
Later, frustrated residents marched to the Mundhwa police station, demanding that the bar be permanently shut. Following their complaint, police registered a case against the pub owner.
Locals have repeatedly raised concerns about Pune’s growing pub culture, citing late-night noise, unruly behaviour by drunken patrons, and violations of safety rules. They allege that despite previous crackdowns after last year’s hit-and-run incident, enforcement has weakened, leaving neighbourhoods to deal with recurring chaos.
