Pune: Residents of Katraj and Kondhwa are struggling with the increasing nuisance caused by motorcyclists modifying Bullet silencers to produce extremely loud noises. The continuous disturbance, especially at night, has led to growing frustration among locals, with many now demanding criminal action against the offenders. Despite multiple police crackdowns, the situation remains unchanged, raising questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement measures.
Unbearable Noise at Night
Residents have complained that groups of bikers, particularly from 11:30 PM to midnight, create extremely loud disturbances while passing through areas like Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Sukhsagar Nagar, and Ambamata Temple Road. Parag Thorat, a resident, noted a rise in reckless racing, road celebrations, and the use of modified silencers, making it difficult for locals to sleep. Yashwant Haribhakt reported that in Yashashree Phase 2 and Shivshambhu Nagar, young bikers regularly gather in the evenings to rev their engines and create a disturbance.
Special Police Crackdown Yields No Results
To curb the nuisance, Kondhwa and Bharati Vidyapeeth police conducted a special drive to remove modified silencers from Bullet bikes. However, the problem persists, leading to concerns that law enforcement measures are insufficient. With exams underway, students and parents are particularly affected, further intensifying demands for strict legal action against the riders.
Local Police Post Fails to Address Complaints
Sukhsagar Nagar residents have also raised concerns about their local police post, stating that it is ineffective in handling complaints. Allegedly, the station is used primarily for cybercrime cases, with no action taken against biker disturbances. Despite a long-awaited demand for a local police post, residents still have to visit Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station for filing complaints.
"We have received repeated complaints from Katraj-Kondhwa areas. Our teams have conducted operations, and we will soon launch a special drive to take stricter action against these bikers."
