Pune: The rising temperatures in Maharashtra have led to a surge in heatstroke cases, with 27 cases reported in Pune during March alone. While the state recently experienced cloudy weather, meteorologists predict an increase in temperatures in the coming days, making it crucial for citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of central Maharashtra will experience cloudy conditions for a few more days, with possible light rainfall in some areas. However, temperatures are expected to remain above normal for the rest of the month.
The city has already seen temperatures nearing 40°C, causing concerns for vulnerable groups such as young children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, lactating mothers, manual laborers, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
Health Department Issues Safety Guidelines
In response to the increasing cases of heat-related illnesses, the Health Department has urged citizens to take preventive measures:
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
Limit Outdoor Exposure: Pregnant women, children, and elderly individuals should avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours.
Wear Protective Clothing: Loose, light-colored clothing is advised to reduce heat absorption.
Monitor Symptoms: If anyone experiences dizziness, excessive sweating, weakness, or nausea, they should seek medical attention immediately.
With the summer heat intensifying, authorities recommend strict adherence to safety measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.
