Pune: The Railway Ministry has granted approval for the survey of the much-awaited Pune-Ahilyanagar railway line. This survey also includes two other important projects: a direct Nashik-Sainagar Shirdi railway line (82 kilometers) and a Sainagar Shirdi-Puntamba double-track line (17 kilometers).
The Pune-Ahilyanagar line, spanning 125 kilometers, aims to significantly reduce travel time and eliminate traffic bottlenecks faced by travelers passing through key areas like Shirur and Shikrapur. Once the surveys are completed, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared to advance the project.
Pune-Nashik Connectivity on the Horizon
The Maharashtra Railway Infrastructure Development Corporation, a joint initiative between the state government and the Railway Ministry, has already prepared the DPR for the direct Pune-Nashik route. This railway line is expected to provide a direct and faster connection, boosting development along the corridor.
Daund-Manmad Doubling Progress
Efforts to improve rail connectivity in the region include the doubling of the 248-kilometer Daund-Manmad railway line. With 178 kilometers already completed, the remaining 70 kilometers are on track for completion, ensuring seamless connectivity between Ahilyanagar, Pune, and Nashik.
Industrial and Regional Development
The proposed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Ahilyanagar-Pune railway route is anticipated to bring industrial growth by improving connectivity to major industrial hubs like Waluj, Ranjangaon, Shendra, Supa, and Chakan. This long-demanded route is poised to enhance logistics and regional development.
Central Railway Advisory Committee member Sudarshan Dungarwal said, "Consistent follow-ups have led to these approvals. The new Pune-Ahilyanagar and Ahilyanagar-Nashik railway routes will act as a catalyst for Ahilyanagar's development."
