Pune International Airport has reached a remarkable milestone by managing 210 flight operations in a single day, setting a new record for the bustling aviation hub. This surge in daily flights reflects the airport’s rapid growth and increasing importance as a key gateway in western India.

The airport currently operates around 104-109 daily flights during the summer schedule, a significant increase from the winter season’s 90 flights. However, on peak days, the number of flights has soared to 210, including both arrivals and departures, connecting Pune to over 35 domestic and multiple international destinations such as Dubai, Bangkok, and Singapore.

This growth is supported by the recent inauguration of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) on March 5, 2025, which spans 52,000 square meters and features 10 aerobridges, 34 check-in counters, and modern passenger amenities. The terminal’s design incorporates Maharashtra’s cultural heritage and has earned a four-star GRIHA rating for sustainability, enhancing the travel experience while supporting environmental responsibility.

Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke highlighted the smooth operations and positive passenger response, emphasizing that the airport is nearing full capacity and further expansion plans are underway to meet the growing demand. The airport handled over 10.54 million passengers in the fiscal year 2024-25, marking a 10.66% increase from the previous year, with a corresponding rise in cargo traffic.

Industry experts stress the urgent need for runway extensions and additional flight slots to accommodate the increasing air traffic, projecting that Pune will soon require hundreds more daily flights to serve the region’s booming population and business activities.
