Pune Airport Sets Record with 100 Metric Tons of Cargo Transported in a Day

Officials commemorated the record with a celebratory gathering, marking the first instance of such an accomplishment in the airport’s history.

Pune Airport reached a historic milestone on Friday (October 25), handling a record-breaking 100 metric tons of cargo in a single day.

This achievement highlights Pune Airport's rising prominence as a key regional cargo hub and underscores its rapid expansion in cargo handling capabilities.

Officials commemorated the record with a celebratory gathering on Friday evening, marking the first instance of such an accomplishment in the airport’s history.

Within a 24-hour period, Pune Airport transported various goods, including industrial products, automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, agricultural produce, and perishable items, to different locations across the country.

This notable increase in cargo operations places Pune Airport as the top non-metro airport for cargo handling and the 8th largest in single-day cargo volume nationwide.

Santosh Dhoke, Director of Pune Airport, expressed pride in this milestone, saying, “This achievement is a significant moment for Pune Airport as it reflects our enhanced cargo capabilities in the region.

We thank our partners and customers for their continued support and are dedicated to maintaining and advancing this momentum.”

While passenger services continue to expand, the Pune airport's cargo import services have yet to take off.

Despite Pune’s growing importance as a commercial hub, a lack of adequate response from transporters and airlines has delayed the start of cargo imports.

Though cargo is currently being exported to destinations like Singapore and Dubai, the airport administration has not been able to secure sufficient commitment from logistics providers to begin import services.
